THE GLASS MENAGERIE

"The Glass Menagerie", a memory play by the American playwright Tennessee Williams, is one of the masterpieces of 20th-century drama, which allows us to feel the fragility of the inner human world and the power of our dreams.

Director Juris Rijnieks invites us to take a look into the world of "The Glass Menagerie": "In difficult times, there are people who stand out or are endowed with a particularly fine sensitivity, as if they could hear the echoes of distant events, the noise of another continent, or the breath with which whales breathe in the ocean. These people seem less than normal to those around them, but they carry with them something that is familiar to all of us – a sentiment from a distant childhood. From a sensibility that perceives the world in all its size at once, together. It's hard to blame us when we worry about our livelihoods, our jobs and the harshness of people. When circumstances put us in the position of a fighter and we have to roll up our sleeves and fight for a place under the sun. When we fear for ourselves, for the future, for destruction in this sun. And yet. Fear destroys dreams. When you fight in a world of fear, you only have access to what is in front of your eyes, or put in the past – in the good old days when things were good. And by living in the past you have turned your back on tomorrow. But our dreams are stronger than our everyday lives."
