LATVIAN LOVE
Director - Alvis Hermanis
Meeting people from dating ads – this was the initial theme of the production, which has been elaborated for a whole year. The result of this effort is a performance about Latvia and Latvians, about loneliness, about women and men. About the unspeakable yearning to love and to be loved. About the present days, where meeting people is becoming more and more of a “luxury”. And about miracles which happen in human lives.
The performance LATVIAN LOVE is based on true events and actors’ own fantasies. Materials obtained during interviews and meetings – personal stories, letters, photographs – served as a source for the actors’ fantasy and work on the parts.
The performance consists of 13 scenes, each presenting different dating situation and social group. All the characters represent some true to type personalities one can find somewhere next to us either in Riga or in country-side.
