World chess champion Mirko Czentovic travels to Argentina on a passenger steamer to win more victories, since Europe and America have already been defeated.
The steamer's passengers want to try their hand against the champion and invite him to a game. When the game is almost lost, a gentleman turns up unexpectedly - a mysterious chess amateur. Two different worlds collide. They play against each other, but the real game is within themselves. Winning and losing mean something different to each of them. And the story, of course, is no longer about chess.
