ASPASIA. PERSONALLY
A performance – study based on the biographical sketches of the well-known Latvian writer and politician Aspasia (1865-1943). Johanna Emilia Lisette Rosenberg, later Elza Plieksane, had chosen the name of Pericle’s beloved — Aspasia. She was the spouse of the great poet Rainis. Rainis and Aspasia are most often referred to both together as a symbol of a loving and creative tandem. There is a view often prevailing among the researchers of biographies of Aspasia and Rainis that Aspasia created Rainis and sacrificed herself to him. But what was Aspasia herself?
